hp_canada challenge many years ago but never posted. Write about someone from HP in Canada? In a region I haven't visited since I was 10? Check. ( The harvest isn't ready just yet. )

Author's notes: I wrote this when I was 19 and thinking about the places I consider to be Canada. I'm 22 now and find Canada in my beer, though I'm not sure which is the improvement, if it's there at all. It was originally (explicitly) set in the Okanagan, until, upon writing, I realized that I had forgotten what it was like there. I had only been to the O twice in the summer with my family as a kid, and never in the winter. I'll get there some day.
